We often label behavior that is different than our own as crazy," says Marcellus Phillips who helped create this card. "It's easy to point to our differences, but I love the opportunity to learn from others who see things differently." While Marcellus wasn't thinking of mental illness when he came up with this card, he encourages us to be inclusive and welcoming of our brothers and sisters who are dealing with clinical issues. "It's not unlike the way we ought to view people experiencing homelessness: you've got to have an open mind, listen, and have empathy. That's actually how we should just treat everyone in life, not just those who are unhoused or coping with mental illness." Marcellus, who became homeless in 2015 at the age of 36, has been housed since 2018.
